Know exactly what you're taking.

Kanna Extract Co.
Quick Guide

Kanna Extract Co. makes lab-tested kanna extracts in powder, oil, capsule, and loose herb form. Each product publishes its exact alkaloid profile, so customers know precisely what they're taking.

What is Kanna Extract Co.?

Kanna Extract Co. is a precision botanical brand built around kanna, a plant traditionally used by the Khoi and San peoples of South Africa to support mood, calm, and connection.

The line includes extract powders, an extract oil, encapsulated daily formulas, and loose herb, all made from Sceletium tortuosum grown by a single South African grower under a documented benefit-sharing agreement. Every batch is tested by an independent lab for alkaloid potency, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbial safety.

Start with how precise your customer wants to be, then choose the format that fits.

What should I recommend?

A customer is brand new to kanna.

Recommend LIFT or a Daily if they don't want to measure.

Say: "LIFT is the best place to start. It's bright and easy to dial in, and a jar lasts 40 servings."

A customer doesn't want to measure anything.

Recommend Kanna Daily.

Say: "Each capsule is one serving. Pick the one that matches how you want your day to feel."

A customer wants something for the daytime.

Recommend LIFT, PLAY, or FOCUS.

Say: "These are the brighter ones. PLAY is for motivation, FOCUS is for concentration, and FOCUS contains guarana, so it's a morning or early afternoon pick."

A customer wants to calm down without feeling sedated.

Recommend BLISS or RELAX.

Say: "These are the softer, more settled options. They take the edge off without making you feel heavy."

A customer wants something for the evening.

Recommend REST or DREAM.

Say: "REST is the calmest extract we carry. DREAM is the capsule version, made for the hour or two before bed. It's a wind-down product, not a sleep aid."

A customer wants warmth and connection.

Recommend DESIRE.

Say: "DESIRE is the slower, more open option for evenings with other people."

A customer is experienced and wants more.

Recommend LIFT XR.

Say: "LIFT XR is the extra-strength powder, meant for people who already know how kanna affects them."

A customer prefers drops or tea.

Recommend Kanna Drops or Fortified Kanna Herb.

Say: "Drops are two to four; no scoop or scale. The herb is the traditional version, steeped as a tea."

Helpful product language

How to describe Kanna Extract Co.

"Kanna Extract Co. makes lab-tested kanna extracts, and every extract publishes its alkaloid profile. LIFT is bright and good for the daytime, BLISS is warmer and more settled, and REST is the calmest one for the evening. If a customer doesn't want to measure anything, the Dailies are one capsule per serving. None of it contains THC or psychedelics."

What to avoid saying

Avoid saying that Kanna Extract Co. products "get you high," or that they treat, cure, or help with anxiety, depression, insomnia, pain, or any other medical condition.

Keep the conversation on the format, the ingredients, the alkaloid profile, and the package directions.

Say this instead:

Instead of "It helps with anxiety."

Say: "It's made for a calmer, more settled mood."

Instead of "It helps you sleep."

Say: "DREAM is made for winding down in the evening. It isn't a sleep aid."

Instead of "It works like an antidepressant."

Say: "It's a botanical that people use for mood and calm."

Instead of "It's natural, so it's safe."

Say: "Read the label and follow the serving directions."

Instead of "Take more if you don't feel it."

Say: "Start with one serving and give it time before taking more."

Instead of "LIFT XR is just a stronger LIFT."

Say: "LIFT XR is extra strength, meant for people who already know how kanna affects them."

Never tell a customer:

  • That it's safe to combine with antidepressants or other medication. Direct them to their doctor or pharmacist.
  • That it's safe to combine with alcohol. Kanna Extract Co. doesn't make that claim, so neither should your staff.
  • That it has "no side effects."

How should a customer start?

Encourage customers to read and follow the serving directions on the package. Start with one serving, give it time to work before taking more, and don't exceed the stated daily limit.

Say this to a new customer:

"Start with one serving and give it a full 30 minutes before you decide anything. It's easier to take a little more later than to take less."

By format:

Powder

One serving is 25mg, which is what the micro-scoop is for. A 1 gram jar of LIFT, BLISS, or REST is 40 servings. Effects usually start around 30 minutes and last two to three hours.

Capsules

One capsule is one serving, and the limit is one capsule in 24 hours. Capsules take a little longer to kick in, usually 30 to 60 minutes, because the capsule has to open first.

Drops

Two to four drops, no measuring. Effects usually start around 30 minutes and last two to three hours.

Herb

Steeped as a tea or used in herbal blends. Follow the directions on the pouch.

Timing:

  • PLAY and FOCUS are for the morning or early afternoon. FOCUS contains guarana.
  • DREAM is for the hour or two before bed, not right at bedtime.

One thing to tell customers: Don't stack two kanna products at once. Taking two together is just a larger serving, not a different effect.

Who should speak with a healthcare professional first?

Kanna affects serotonin, so staff should treat this as a rule, not a suggestion.

Customers who should talk to their doctor or pharmacist before buying:

  • Anyone taking an antidepressant (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, or tricyclics)
  • Anyone taking lithium, triptans (migraine medication), or certain prescription pain relievers
  • Anyone taking dextromethorphan, which is the active ingredient in many over-the-counter cough medicines
  • Anyone taking St. John's Wort or 5-HTP
  • Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Anyone managing a diagnosed medical condition
  • Anyone taking any other prescription or over-the-counter medication

Combining serotonergic substances can cause serotonin syndrome, which is rare but serious. Kanna is also not for anyone under 18.

Ask every new customer:

"Are you taking any medications or supplements right now?"

If they say yes, or aren't sure:

Say: "Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before trying this. It's worth a quick call to make sure it's a good fit."

If they mention an antidepressant or mood medication:

Don't make the sale. Say: "Kanna can interact with those, so you'll want to talk to your prescriber first. We'll be here when you've checked."

If they ask whether it's safe with their medication:

Say: "I can't answer that for you. Your pharmacist can look at your exact medications in a couple of minutes."

One thing for staff to remember:

Supplements and cough medicine are easy to forget. Customers often don't think of St. John's Wort, 5-HTP, or cold medicine as "medication," so ask about them by name if they seem unsure.

Give your customers a kanna they can trust.
